English Part
The University of Birmingham, affectionately known as 'Brum', is situated in Edgbaston, just three miles from the city centre. The campuses are well-connected for local and national transport links, making it an ideal student city for both commuting students and those new to Birmingham.
Public Transport and Campus Navigation
The university boasts its own train station, 'University Station', located at the West Gate of the main campus, less than 10 minutes from Birmingham New Street station by train. There are up to six trains an hour departing for the University on the cross-city line. For bus travellers, key services like the 61, 63, and X64 run from the city centre and stop on the Bristol Road, on the south side of campus. The MyUoB app features a smart campus map with live bus departures and journey planning tools, which is an essential tool for both experienced commuters and campus newcomers.
Sustainable Travel and Student Discounts
The University encourages sustainable travel choices. Many students choose to cycle, and the university supports this with over 1,800 bike racks, bike hire schemes, and free D-locks available at regular campus events. First-year undergraduate students can benefit from a free 4-week bus ticket, and all UoB students enjoy an exclusive 20% discount on 4-week and monthly tickets for the rest of the year. For train commuters, discounted termly tickets and combined network passes covering rail, bus, and metro services are available, making public transport an affordable and convenient option for travelling around Birmingham and the West Midlands.
